From the Garden

The little things in life

From the Garden

We are starting to reap the rewards of our labour of love in the garden.  The children have delighted in picking radishes and lettuce from the raised beds and have been keen to try everything.  Oli was bewitched by the bright red radishes but has since discovered they are not to his taste!  Granted, we are far from 'the good life'; no man, woman and 3 children can live off the scent of roses, a few radish and lettuce alone but...

A very Good Friday

Prawn and Mussel Linguine

A very Good Friday

I can't get over this fabulous weather, It's been so hot here over the Easter holidays that it's felt more like summer than spring.  Once again, we've taken full advantage of the weather and have been eating most of our meals in the garden and yes that means A LOT of barbequing; but as it's traditional to forgo meat in favour of fish on Good Friday I decided to do a very simple mussel and prawn linguine which was perfect for the whole family on a scorching lazy day...

A Mini Breakfast

Poached Quail Eggs

A Mini Breakfast

We love good breakfasts and thanks to our garden hens we regularly have dippy eggs and soldiers or scrambled eggs for breakfast. I love that the children can nip down the garden, collect a few eggs and within 10 minutes they have a nutritious and tasty breakfast, I'm lucky that all three of the children love eggs as they are a great start to their day.  At the weekends we have the time to be a little more adventurous with breakfast so I was very pleased when I was given some quail eggs by my sister-in-law (whose family has inherited 50 quails to look after!)...

A Year In Polaroid 2010 - Part I

A mobile photo album

A Year In Polaroid 2010 - Part I

As I was loading the photos for the World Book Day post from my phone to my PC I noticed I still had all of last year's photos to export! I was shocked to discover that I had taken 1728 pictures last year on my mobile, that's an average of 144 photos a month just hidden away on my phone! I realised that these pictures probably give a more accurate representation of day to day life than the ones I take on my digital camera so I've decided to do a 'Year in Pictures' post, a little late I know but I was very new to blogging in January and was still getting my head around this system.

World Book Day {2011}

'I write this sitting in the kitchen sink'...

World Book Day {2011}

...Well not really but as today is world book day and being an ardent book lover I thought it would be a great opportunity to share a couple of our favourite books. Our home is filled with books and I couldn't be without them, the children have also, to my delight, grown to be enthusiastic book lovers.  We have bookcases in most rooms (small piles of books can usually be found in those without) and I've got to the stage now that a book only makes the bookshelf if it is truly special; those that don't make the shelf I swap with friends.

I thought for a while about which book I could call my favourite and decided I couldn't possibly narrow it down to 1 or even ten; I cherish novels alongside cookery books, history books, plays, poems, travel books...the list goes on.  So I thought for this post the children and I would pick one book each from our favourites to share...

The Winter Beach

Pebble Hunting, Porlock

The Winter Beach
So here we are in half term and yes it's rainy and grey so what do we do? Why we go to the beach of course! I love the beach at any time of year, I find it so soothing and yet full of adventure.  So we packed up the car, wellies and raincoats taking place of blankets and beach balls, and headed down to Devon to see what the day would bring...

Crayon Hearts

Re-love your old crayons

Crayon Hearts

It's half term again, we've looked forward and waited for it and it's raining!  All our plans have gone out the window (well they've sort of hovered by the windowsill - it's too wet for them outside!) and I'm left wondering how to keep three children between the ages of 1 and 10 occupied?

We've found lots of arts and crafts projects that are cost free on the internet, and a surprising winner with my children has been creating these lovely heart crayons...

My Valentines 2011

A Family Affair

My Valentines 2011

We love any excuse to celebrate in this house so when Rob offered to cook something special for Valentines Day everyone got very excited, yes it became apparent very quickly this would be a family affair! And why not? Valentines is about love and, failing a surprise romantic trip to Paris, what better way to spend the evening than surrounded by the people I love the most.
