Crochet Pattern - Egg Cosy

My first pattern...

I can't believe it's March already, it seems like only yesterday I was feeling that post Christmas drag and thinking Spring would be ages away - so Hooray for Spring!

I've been asked if I could make some egg cosies so I have been playing around with patterns. The first pattern I tried was from one of my books, it was a simple pattern but because of the yarn/hook I was using came out the size of a barbie hat (which is what it's now being used as) so I gave up and did my own thing instead...

...I played around with some simple stripes for my cosies - I really liked how they turned out so I've written it out below...

When your photography assistant is only 2 years old things can quite often take a strange turn, quickly Lulu decided the eggs should be 'put to bed' so you know I just went with it...

So here it is:

Stripey Egg Cosy Pattern

Written in UK terms.

These were fairly long, but were just right for the eggs I was using if you need them smaller try a smaller hook or if they are too long simply skip Row 5. For the stripey cosy just alternate your cotton after each row.

Yarn: cotton (I used Sidar Simply Recycled DK 51% cotton, 49% Acrylic)

Hook: 3.5mm

Ch = Chain

SS = Slip Stitch

TR = Treble

DC = Double Crochet

Ch 4 Join with SS to create a ring

Round 1: Ch 2, 11 TR into ring SS into top of Ch 2 (12)

Round 2: Ch 2, 1 TR in same stitch, 2 TR in each stitch around, join with a SS to top of Ch 2 (24)

Round 3: Ch 2, 1 TR in each stitch around, join with a SS to top of Ch 2 (24)

Rounds 4 & 5: as Round 3

Round 6: Ch 1, DC in each stitch around SS into Ch 1, finish off.

Hope that makes sense I'm pretty new at writing patterns so if you try it and find any problems (or if you try it and you don't!) let me know!

Lovely egg cosies, but two-year-olds can be very creative - I just love them as egg beds!! I love how she's holding that tucked-up egg so gently and seriously :-)

Those are very cute. I'm in love with the photo of your helper holding the egg sleeping. THAT one should be in a picture book. Adorable.

Cute pattern. Thank you!
I've used a 3mm hook for my smaller eggs :) I'll use these for Easter- they will look good on my table and also they'll be great as a gift!

This site is a content management system from Joomla, Like Wordpress you purchase templates and customise them, then you can update the front page yourself categories etc. I've worked with Joomla sites before so this was an easier option for me. For a beginner I would recommend a Wordpress blog - you can purchase templates or they provide free ones. To start a basic blog (for example on blogger.com) you do not need any coding experience. If you have a hunt around the internet there are lots of sites that can help you get started. Best of luck. Emma x
