Crochet Catch-up

{Podcast Episode 7}

Hello! I uploaded episode 7 of my crochet podcast last week but I thought I would stop in and blog about the projects I’ve been making over the past couple of weeks…

Lululoves Crochet

I’ve been enjoying working on my lost in time shawl over the holidays and am so pleased that I have finally finished it. I’m glad I persevered with this one as it was in danger for a while of being put down and forgotten about. I had found myself struggling at the beginning of the swirl due to the fact the yarn was black and we live like moles here in the evening. It really is beautiful.

I also made my first pair of crochet socks. I cannot believe it has taken me this long to make myself a pair of socks but I am definitely converted. I can see many more pairs in my future projects. This pattern is from an old issue of Inside Crochet Magazine (issue 51) I don’t think you can buy this pattern individually but you can buy back issues of the magazine. I did mention in the podcast that I found the instructions for the heel slightly confusing and as I was researching the pattern for the links I noticed that the Ravelry entry for the socks contained some errata notes for the heel, so if you do make them its worth having a look at those notes first!

Pattern: Simmerdei Socks by Bianca Boonstra, Yarn: Drops Delight Print in shade 04, Hook: 3mm (suggested hook is 2.5mm):

I treated myself to a little crochet kit from Wool and the Gang in the sale. The pattern was for some fingerless gloves, everything needed was included in the kit included some of their gorgeous sugar baby alpaca. I found I wasn’t enjoying working the stitch pattern with my choice of yarn and hook so I digressed from the pattern but still ended up with a beautiful pair of mitts. I’ve spoke more in depth about this pattern in the podcast if you want more info.

Also mentioned/shown in the podcast are updates on my Siena Kimono (pattern by Kath Webber and some updates on my Saturday squares.

Book love:

I was lucky to receive lots of lovely books for Christmas and I’ve also shared these on the podcast. I’ve actually already started on these and have already finished the Vagina Monologues and am nearly finished with the new PD James, both of which I’ve really enjoyed. I’ll share my thoughts on them in the next episode. I’ve listed them below should you wish to get more info:

Lululoves: January Books

Tender is The Night - F. Scott Fitzgerald

Z - A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald

Sleep No More - P.D. James

Mythos - Stephen Fry

Jane Austen at Home - Lucy Worsley

The V Monologues - Eve Ensler

Anyway, I think that is about all for crochet for now. I’ll be back with another episode this week so I’ll leave you with a few snaps from our walk up Gold Hill in Shaftesbury a few weeks back. Such a gorgeous place, otherwise known as Hovis Hill and made famous by the 70’s advert for Hovis bread directed by Ridley Scott. The views from the top are just stunning.

Hope you are all well and have had a good start to the new year.

You can watch episode 7 of the podcast here should you wish.

Bye for now. Em xx
