Kaffe Fassett

A Life In Colour Exhibition

It's half term this week so all the children are home - which means a good dose of chaos here! I've been working on lots of projects but as I've not had the time to photograph any I thought I would share some of the photos I took from the Kaffe Fassett exhibition last weekend...

I've seen images of some of Kaffe's quilts before but this was the first time I've been lucky enough to see his work close up. The exhibition had over 100 pieces on display and included textile, knitted, painted and mosaic works.

I think what impressed me the most was his use of colour. I knew he was famous for it but being amongst all those colours and textures made me want to explore the way I use colour in my own work. I'm naturally drawn to muted/pastel tones but I've been inspired to push myself out of my comfort zone in the future!

The birthday girl had requested a trip to the Tate Modern so we spent a good couple of hours there before heading to Topshop! All in all a pretty colourful day out :)

This exhibition looks amazing. You get used to seeing snippets of his work in magazine articles, general media etc but I can see that actually being there must be a whole different experience! I'm only used to seeing images of his knitwear so hadn't realised he did quilts too! The colours and patterns are just knockout and seamlessly fit together....beautiful and your photos are fantastic. Sounds like you had a fab day out! Kate x

Ooh I'd love to see his work close up - the quilts look amazing.

Only seems like a few moments ago you were writing your last post about the Feb half term!

I'm a color fanatic! When I first started knitting and crocheting, I used very bright and colorful yarns including some fluorescent yarn as well. I have since grown to love the whole color wheel, nothing is off limits for me now. I love the display of vivid colors that you have blogged. My name is Laurie and I am a yarn hoarder. I pick up yarn every where and all the time. I go through a lot making projects for Christmas and friends. Sorry about the looong text. It's a mood a get into once and a while... Probably could use the long messages on my own blog... OK, I like your blog and look forward to seeing more!
